Everything just shut down without warning

A week ago, my body suddenly shut down. No warning, no build-up. It was as if all the fuses went out at once. Light hurt, sound hurt, even turning from one side to the other felt like running a marathon. The only thing I could do was lie still and wait for it to pass.

When my body shut down
No warning.
Everything just stopped.

After two days I managed to drag myself to a chair by the window and steal a few rays of sun. Of all days, my body chose the warm ones to stop working. Watching the light outside while barely being able to move felt harder than the pain itself. Still, those small beams slowly brought something back. I could eat a little, sleep a little, breathe without everything tightening.

The third day I walked a bit and felt strength returning in small, careful steps. I could smile again without it hurting my face. Hope came back quietly. The day after I tried groceries, came home, and collapsed on the couch. Recovery felt slow, almost unreal, like my body had aged overnight.

I skipped hosting my party because I didn’t trust my body yet. Instead I went to a family dinner, sat quietly, and absorbed the warmth. When I got home I crashed again, but it was worth it. Every day since, I feel a small shift back. The pain softens, the heaviness lifts, and I notice how much I took feeling “normal” for granted.

A block of wood that fell on my head at the gas station cannot affect me forever.
